📝 Full Itinerary
Day 1 – Arrival in Cluj Napoca
Arrive at Cluj Napoca International Airport, where you’ll meet your local guide. Enjoy a walking tour of the city center, exploring landmarks such as Union Square, St. Michael’s Church, and the lively boulevards of this cultural hub. Transfer to your 4★ hotel for check-in. Overnight in Cluj.
Day 2 – Cluj → Maramureș (Wooden Churches & Monastery)
Travel north into the heart of Maramureș, a region where ancient traditions live on. Visit the UNESCO-listed wooden churches of Șurdești and Desești, masterpieces of local craftsmanship. Continue to the Bârsana Monastery, one of the most beautiful and active monastic complexes in Romania, set amidst rolling hills. Overnight in a charming 4★ rural pension, where hospitality feels like family.
Day 3 – Mocănița & Craftsmen of Maramureș
All aboard the famous Mocănița steam train, as it winds through the picturesque Vaser Valley, crossing forests, rivers, and mountain villages. In the afternoon, visit local craftsmen, from woodcarvers to weavers, and learn about the centuries-old traditions still alive today. Dinner with traditional dishes and overnight at the same pension.
Day 4 – Sighetu Marmației & Săpânța
Morning visit to Sighetu Marmației, where history comes alive at the Museum of Victims of Communism, located in the former political prison. Continue to Săpânța to discover the world-famous Merry Cemetery, with its brightly painted wooden crosses and humorous epitaphs — a unique celebration of life and death. Return for your final overnight stay in Maramureș.
